1. The jurisdiction under which a debtor or other entity operates. Most commonly the country in which a debtor - for example a bank - is located.

2. Independent of any higher external authority, especially in relation to a country.

3. The head of state in a monarchy.

4. A British gold coin historically worth one pound sterling, now used for collection or investment purposes.
