The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision published in 1988 a set of minimum capital requirements for financial institutions to minimise credit risk.

It was enforced by law in the G10 countries in 1992.  
Finance parties in borrowing and lending include lenders, arrangers and agents, including facility agents and security agents.


Also known as the 1988 Basel Accord.
There may be other finance parties in addition to these.


Now superseded and updated by [[Basel II]] and [[Basel III]].
 
Identifying finance parties is important in the context of potential ''finance party default''.
