A UK membership organisation with responsibility for ensuring that payment services work for all who use them.  It sets a strategy for UK payments including the National Payments Plan which looks at how payments can be improved and enhanced.

The Payments Council set up the Paym scheme which uses mobile phones to send and receive payments.
Superseded by Payments UK in 2015, which was in turn integrated into the successor trade association UK Finance in 2017.
