The Foundation for Family Businesses in Germany and Europe.
(UKFI).


The foundation’s main purpose is to provide support, information and a platform for the sharing of ideas about family businesses in Europe.
United Kingdom Financial Investments Ltd was the organisation set up in 2008 to manage the UK government's investments in financial institutions.


UKFI was responsible for managing government investments in recipient banks, including government shareholdings in Royal Bank of Scotland and Lloyds Banking Group, and government shareholdings in - and loans to - UK Asset Resolution (UKAR).


For this purpose a firm of any size can a family business, if ownership and governance criteria are met.


This includes at least one representative of the family being formally involved in the governance of the firm.
UKFI's responsibilities have now been transferred to United Kingdom Government Investments Ltd (UKGI).




Listed companies can meet the definition of a family business if the founder or their family hold at least 25% of decision making rights.
