Bitcoin is a digital currency that is created, and effectively administered without recourse to a central bank or other central authority.
Key component of national and international attempts to reduce the increase in concentrations of greenhouse gases.


It was launched in 2009.
One carbon credit is the right to emit one tonne of carbon dioxide (CO<sub>2</sub>).  




Bitcoin is sometimes abbreviated to 'BC', rather than BTC.
