In financial markets, Black Friday means Friday 13 October 1989, a mini-crash in stock markets which was followed by a crash in high-yield ('junk') bond markets.


2. Retail.

In retail, Black Friday is the day following Thanksgiving Day in the US in November, on which many market participants discount retail prices.
