The European Green Deal sets out the EU's objective of making Europe "the first carbon-neutral continent" by 2050.


The EBA's responsibilities include:
This means achieving net zero emissions, through eliminating all feasible emissions so far as is reasonably achievable, and offsetting the residual carbon.


*Ensuring effective and consistent prudential regulation and supervision across the European banking sector.
*Maintaining financial stability in the EU.
*Safeguarding the integrity, efficiency and orderly functioning of the banking sector.
*Contributing to the creation of a European Single Rulebook in banking whose objective is to provide a single set of harmonised prudential rules for financial institutions throughout the EU.
*Promoting convergence of supervisory practices.
*Assessing risks and vulnerabilities in the EU banking sector.


The European Green Deal was published by the European Commission in December 2019.
