Income/(expense)

Income / (expense) is a sign convention under which items of income are positive numbers, and expenses are negative.

Negative numbers are often shown (in brackets) for emphasis.


For example:

Income +12

- Expenses (9)

= Net income +3


Taking another example:

Income +12

- Expenses (14)

= Net expenses (2)
