Information technology - internet - internet protocol.

Abbreviation for Internet Protocol address.

IP addresses are established to:

  • Identify the interface between a host and a computer network, and
  • Locate the host in the network, to enable establishing a path to it.

IP addresses are generally four numbers, in the range 0 to 255.

For example, 0.0.0.0 through to 255.255.255.255.
