  1. The suggestion or possibility that the UK might leave the European Union.
  2. The potential consequences of any such exit, in the event that there were to be one.


The term 'Brexit' is a combination of BRitain and EXIT.


A referendum on the issue will be held in the UK on 23 June 2016.
