CDs evidence fixed maturity time deposits with issuing banks or other deposit-taking institutions.
An increase of 3%, say from 2% to 5%, is an increase of three percentage points, or 300 basis points.
 
Maturities range from less than a week to five years.
 
They are normally negotiable and enjoy a liquid secondary market.
