Core Tier 1 capital was the highest quality form of regulatory capital under Basel II.
It was based on common equity shares and reserves, less regulatory deductions.
Under Basel III regulations, Core Tier 1 capital was superseded by Common Equity Tier 1 capital, which is more narrowly defined.
