Reduction in the total area of the earth covered by forest.
Especially longer-term reductions caused by human activity.
Deforestation is an important environmental concern because forests act as carbon sinks and provide other ecosystem services.
2. Environmental concerns - regional, national & local.
Reduction in the proportion of a region, country or other area covered by forest.
