(ABM).

A type of computational modelling approach in which individuals or collective entities (such as organisations or groups) and their interaction with each other and their environment, are explicitly represented in a program, or another physical entity such as a robot.

It attempts to integrate human and institutional behaviour with a view to assessing their effects on the system as a whole to produce forecasting models.

Both mathematical and experimental approaches are required for its development and application.
