Alternative dispute resolution is designed to achieve acceptable outcomes for the parties to a dispute, without litigation or other conflict.

Techniques may include arbitration, conciliation, mediation and negotiation, among others.


Alternative dispute resolution is often abbreviated to dispute resolution, meaning resolution by means other than formal legal processes.
