Abbreviation for Financial Independence, Retire Early.

The idea is for individuals to save at a much greater rate than is usual, by decreasing their personal expenses and investing in assets that produce passive income.

By doing so successfully, they may be able to retire comfortably, at a much younger age than most other people do.
