UK central bank oversight.

An SMF participant is a participating institution in the Bank of England's Sterling Monetary Framework (SMF).

In principle, participation in the SMF is voluntary.

However, the SMF has been designed to encourage participation.

Institutions eligible to be SMF participants include:

  • Commercial banks
  • Building societies
  • Broker-dealers
  • Central counterparties (CCPs)
