In the institutional context, an asset manager is a financial services company that provides asset management by coordinating and overseeing all or part of a client's financial portfolio.

Asset managers are commonly engaged by institutional investors like pension funds, and financial intermediaries, as well as high net worth individuals.


2. Retail asset management services.

In the retail context, asset managers can also be individuals.


3. Operational and tangible assets.

A manager responsible for the safekeeping and maintenance of a revenue producing asset.

Often also including responsibilities relating to the revenues.
