The European 'Single Market' is an aspirational term for the European Economic Area (EEA).
Sometimes written without capitals as 'single market'.
2. European Economic Area.
The term 'single market' is also used to refer to the achievement of - or the aspiration to achieve - free trade in particular classes of services or goods within the EEA.
3. All markets.
More generally, free trade in any class of services or goods, within any market.
For example, the capital markets union is an initiative of the European Union designed "to achieve a true single market for capital in Europe."
