1. Learning, development and education - adjective.

An approach to learning and knowledge transfer characterised by objectivity, rigour and transparency.

Findings and recommendations are supported by evidence, including references to enable readers and others to trace through the reasons for the conclusions put forward.

Key academic skills include critical evaluation.


2. Noun.

An individual who works as a researcher or teacher, especially within a university or other academic institution.


3. Adjective.

In a derogatory sense, of purely theoretical relevance, with no obvious practical value.
