PF2 was established in 2012.

PF2 followed the reform of the UK's Private Finance Initiative (PFI).


PF2 reaffirmed the UK government’s commitment to private sector involvement in infrastructure and services, while recognising changes to the economic context.

PF2 was discontinued for new projects in 2018.
