An investment fund whose aim is to track a particular investment index (for example the FTSE 100 index).

One way of doing this is by replicating the index constituents in the investment portfolio of the tracker fund.

It can also be done by investing in a selected subset of the index, or by the use of appropriate derivative instruments.

Also known as an index fund.
