When commodities are part of a company’s core business or processes there can be exposures arising from either or both of:

1. Price fluctuations (commodity price risk); and
Generative pre-trained transformers are language models that have been pre-trained on large datasets of unlabelled natural language text.


2. Lack of availability of the commodity.
They can generate new text that is human-like, and in some cases may be difficult to distinguish from human-written text.


Both of these risks are aspects of Commodity risk.


Commodity price risk - as defined above - may also arise from intentionally creating speculative positions in the physical commodity or (more commonly) related derivative instruments.
GPT's unsupervised pre-training may then often be supplemented by additional fine-tuning human supervised training, known as Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF).
